Making road transport compliance and training easy and roads safer
Prestige are proud to offer a Rolling Road Brake Testing Institute of Motor Industry accredited training programme. Delivered by our partner company Blyth Auto Solutions Ltd an accredited IMI training centre.
Prestige Transport Compliance & Training Ltd have in partnership with the Blyth Auto Solutions the IMI and Tesco Fleet Engineering department developed a very much needed accredited training programme for Rolling Road Brake Testing.
The programme is a must for the industry, ever since the Bath tipper tragedy regulators and stake holders have been working towards better brake testing standards to ensure such a tragedy shall not happen again.
The recent up date of the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness has stated that by 2025 there will be an expectation that operators will ensure that all safety inspections include Roller Road Brake Testing or EBPMS monitoring.
The programme complements the already very successful IRTEC accreditation scheme. Aimed at technicians that will be undertaking Roller Road Brake Testing as part of their daily tasks.
The benefits
This programme will establish that the candidate has the knowledge and competency to undertake a rolling road brake test on heavy goods vehicles, heavy trailers coaches and buses, understand the importance of a good brake test result and how that effects road safety and the operators responsibilities.
Ensuring that the outcome of the test is considered suitable and confirms that the vehicle or trailers braking system have been assessed to stop the vehicle under the speed and weight that it is designed. This will ensure that qualified technicians conduct rolling road brake testing in a correct manner.
The candidate must have access to a calibrated Roller Road Brake Tester, a rigid vehicle LGV or PSV with a GVW of at least 7500Kgs or semi-trailer loaded to at least 65% of the design axle weights. Tractor units can be used for the qualification but must be coupled to a loaded trailer.
This programme is designed for LGV & PSV technicians that carry out safety inspections and MOT preperation.
The course is one day in duration with a maximum of 6 delegates per day.
The candidates will attend a 1 hour 30minute classroom-based training session. The training will look at the importance of Roller Road Brake Testing, an overview of EBPMS, the preparation before testing, understanding the contents from the HGV Inspection manual, identifying the dtp number and what the number means, Reading and understanding the RBT report, making manual adjustments, analysis of reports.
Following the training candidates will then be required to complete a 20 question theory test, this is part multi choice and part short answer questions.
For the practical assessment the candidates will need to demonstrate the following.
On passing the assessment a certificate will be issued by the Institute of Motor Industry
